Oh I love these guys, I was so excited to catch up with them again after capturing Jenna and Grants gorgeous wedding back in March!
I was even more excited to hear that Elisa and Baker are getting married next year and I get to be there to capture that as well! I seriously can't wait!

We all caught up last week for a massive session, we combined a few vouchers they had all bought each other as gifts and did them all at once. I can't begin to tell you how much it means that people choose to give photography as a gift, it is just so special.

I had such a great afternoon with them all and Pixie as well! I have to say she was the biggest poser...I thought my dog had it all going on but Pixie nailed it!

Melinda and Paul's Tuross Wedding

I have met a fair few wedding planners in my time but I have to say I am most impressed with Melinda and Paul's....you see, its their gorgeous 9 year old son Ben who planned this intimate wedding... all of it, every little detail and it went without a hitch, it was perfect!

Set on the beautiful headlands of Tuross, they shared their day with their family, beautifully private and so special, it was followed by some family photos and then a celebration dinner at The Pickled Octopus.

Well done Ben and congratulations to Melinda and Paul, on both their wedding and their amazing little family. You should be very proud!

I have had the absolute honor of capturing him and his gorgeous mum and dad for family portraits, I then got to witness their beautiful wedding back in March and now the most precious privilege of all, taking the very first photographs of their brand new little guy..ahh..and I have to say he is seriously, seriously gorgeous!

Catherine and Dean's Batemans Bay Wedding

Weddings are such a great time, not only for the couple involved but for families. In Catherine and Dean's case, their wedding has bought together their families from all over the world! They have spent the past few weeks with people who they haven't seen in a long time so they know just how special the occasion is.

Catherine is Australian and despite travelling Ireland for a long time, didn't stumble upon Dean, who is Irish through and through until she came back here!
I love those amazing little twists of fate! And so it was, a prefect match....

They were married on Saturday, on a perfect day at St Bernard's church in front of the hilarious Father Tom.
The day was amazing and it was an honor to be included...and listen to all those Irish accents!

The best part of my job is being able to watch families grow, to be asked each year to come back and capture the same beautiful families is such an honor. To see how much each child has grown is the most amazing experience.
This is one of those gorgeous families, I adore these girls and get so excited to head back and catch up with them! I met the smallest of the gang when she was just days old, then again when she was about 6 months and she is now 16 months!

Yesterday was just as fun, walking around their beautiful property but this time there was another new family member....a boy called Cooper! ok, he is of the 'furry baby' type and not a human but seriously cute and I have a feeling he will be very loved by these girls!

I had so much fun yesterday, thank you all!

Philippa and Matt's Kangaroo Valley Wedding

I'm sure you would agree that its pretty hard to plan a wedding, that could be where your trusty team of Bridesmaids steps in to take the pressure of, calm you down, pour you another whiskey when you start to lose the plot.... well imagine doing it all, including buying dresses when your entire collection of Bridesmaids are a whole world away...England in fact. That's what the amazing Philippa did and it blew me away!

Not so bad on the other end for these lucky girls who got to come all the way to Australia for their best friends wedding. Philippa and Matt could not have picked a more perfect location to show of this amazing country of ours to their international guests, set on the breath taking deck of Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat, surrounded by the bushland.

Their day was perfect in every way, they were serenaded by three super talented friends, through the ceremony and then enjoyed canapes overlooking the land.

Thank you both for allowing us to be part of your day, it was so very special.

Mumma to be Emmy

The last few weeks of pregnancy are the most amazing time. The excitement and anticipation are incredible. Having watched your baby grow for nine months to finally come so close to meeting them is the most beautiful experience.
To capture a couple at that time is such an honor.

I was so excited to hear from Emmy, its been far too long between maternity sessions and I knew just the place for it. What was more exciting was that it was to be a surprise for her husband, but as the day rolled around Emmy confessed she was so excited she let it out and he would be joining us for the session. It was well worth having him there and we got some beautiful images for them to share...and is Em not the most stunning mumma to be?

Madeline + Ben's Ulladulla Wedding

Ok, I'm going to confess, when I walked in to see the divine Miss Madeline, standing in her amazing robe, at the most incredibly beautifully mirror, inside a cottage that is possibly every photographers dream house, which sits on the most stunning winery, thick with grape vines and with a seriously gorgeous view....I was a tad excited...to say the very least! Inspired may be a better word.
It was a little hot on Saturday - 35 degrees to be precise but a breeze came over the vineyard just on cue and Madeline and Ben were married in a beautiful, intimate ceremony over looking the land.

It was just perfect and I am so honoured to have been there to capture it.

I have to say, I think Helen may be my most excited client yet. She has been counting down the days to her session for about three months and I cannot begin to tell you just how much that means to me.

I hadn't been to the location she chose before Sunday but Helen did an amazing job in choosing it! Not only is it their family's favorite place to go, Dave grew up spending time there with his dad as a boy, so it has so much value for them all.

Given that, I have to admit to feeling nervous about posting a sneak peek. I want her love them more than anyone has loved a photo before. They need to be perfect in every way.

I do hope you truly love these Helen, I think I am more nervous than you were before the session!

I heard a lot of stats in the lead up to Stacey and Adrian's wedding about couples choosing lucky dates for their wedding, lots of couples would wed on Friday the 11/11/11 because of the lucky numbers, although after being part of their own amazing miracle, I don't think Stacey and Adrian need much more luck on their side, they already have it as a teency little munchkin by their sides.

Their day was amazing and it was an honor to share it with them and their fantastic families.

Ali and Dave's Lake Crackenback Wedding

As soon as I turned up, despite the grey clouds dropping a snowy rain Ali said to me 'Dad assures me the rain will stop by 4". Dad was right.

The clouds cleared and Dave and Ali were married in a beautiful ceremony underneath the snow capped hills, then as if set to a clock, as soon as the ceremony finished the rain fell again but neither Dave or Ali minded, they then spent a lovely hour by the fire with all their family and friends before heading to their reception.

These guys had me from the minute I arrived, with the tears that is! I am a softie, I still get emotional at every single wedding I am part of, I laugh at all the speeches, and am touched by people's families and relationships but Casey and Shannon's families and friends really got me!

Set on the amazing Oaks Ranch Estate, against dark thunder clouds (which thankfully kept well away) Casey and Shannon were married, in the most beautiful, emotional service, with their cute as a button little boys by their sides.

Belinda and Tim's Sydney Wedding

In a rare moment of seriousness during his speech to all their family and friends, Tim told how amazingly kind and thoughtful Belinda is. That she is a truly beautiful person. Having known Belinda and Tim for just their wedding day, I have to say I couldn't agree more! I was blown away, time and time again, in just that one day by what amazingly beautiful people they both are! Their kindness, genuine caring and thoughtfulness are like no one I have met before, not to mention the fact Tim scored 24 tries in twelve games, which makes him pretty awesome! *wink wink...

Tim and Belinda's day was amazing and the fact they chose me to capture it is just so special. The ceremony, a beautiful service in Ryde was followed by their stunning reception on board the Bella Vista, a 'floating ballroom' which after canapes on the sun deck, cruised the harbour into the night.

Belinda and Tim, thank you so much for everything you did, I have never felt so appreciated and welcomed. You guys are so amazing! I hope you enjoy this little preview of your photos.

Kalpana + Chris' Canberra Wedding

Have you seen Monsoon wedding? Kalpana asked me when we met over coffee to discuss their wedding. I hadn't seen it but promised her I would go and watch it so I could be ready for the chaos, colour, and enormity of what could be their wedding.
I watched it far too early in the year because for the months and months I then had to wait for the date to roll around I was beyond excited! She thought it may turn me off but I really couldn't wait to be part of it.

It was well worth the wait and I felt so overwhelmed by just how amazing Kalpana looked when she stepped out of the car, and couldn't wait for Chris to see her.

After they met with each other we set out in the pouring rain for their location shoot and after one stop under cover, the clouds cleared, the rain eased and the day went along so perfectly.

I was captivated by their Hindu ceremony, I took far too many photos, was moved by the culture and the music and the tradition and walked away on such a high to have been part of it all.

Kalpana and Chris, I thank you so much for giving me such an amazing job on Saturday, you are the most beautiful people and we feel so privileged to have shared in such a special time with you.

I was so moved by the amazing Hindu ceremony and wanted to share some of the rituals and traditional elements so taken from Kalpana and Chris' wedding site, here is some insight into this incredible ceremony:

Traditionally, Hindu wedding ceremonies can last for many days and involve much ritual in Sanskrit (the language of ancient India).

Swagatam & Duwaarpoojan (Arrival of the Groom)
The groom arrives at the wedding venue and is welcomed by the bride's family. A small prayer is offered to Lord Ganesha, seeking blessings and removal of any obstacles.

Parchan (Greeting the Groom)
The bride's female relatives greet the groom, taking turns to bless him by performing "Aarti".

The groom is then escorted to the Mandap, where a series of prayers are conducted to invite gods and goddesses to be present and to bless the bride and groom. These include:

Navagraha:
conducted to create a harmonious and auspicious disposition of the nine planets of the solar system. Ancient indian studies indicate that the planets and the celestial beings have a bearing on the destiny of every individual. The effects if the nine planets are meant to be the most profound.

Madhupak:
A mixture of ghee, honey and yogurt is offered to the groom as an expression welcoming him to marry the bride.

The bride is escorted to the Mandap by her brothers.

Jaimala (Exchange of Garlands)
The couple exchanges garlands as a gesture of acceptance and a pledge to respect one another as partners.

Kanyadan (Giving Away of the Bride)
The prime wealth of a Hindu household is the “kanya” (daughter) who symbolises the Hindu goddess Lakshmi (representing wealth and wellbeing).

The bride's parents place her hands into the groom's hand and the bride's brother pours water over them to finalise the gesture of transferring responsibility of the daughter from the bride's family to the groom. The groom holds the bride's hand and they both vow to love, cherish and protect each other throughout their lives.

According to Vedic scriptures there is no greater gift one can give than a daughter's hand in marriage. During this ritual the priest will recite the names of the bride's and groom's paternal line back three generations to seek their blessings for the couple.

Granthibandhan (Tying of the Nuptial Knot)
Scarves placed around the bride and groom are tied together symbolizing their eternal bond. This signifies their pledge before God to love each other and remain faithful.

Havan and Mangalpheras (Walk Around the Fire)
The priest lights the sacred fire so that "Agni Dev" (God of Fire) can witness the commitment of the couple to each other and provide blessings.

The crucial part of the wedding is the Havan, where the couple circle around the fire seven times, pouring rice into the fire provided by the bride's brother. These Mangalpheras represent the four goals in life: Dharma, religious and moral duties; Artha, prosperity; Karma, earthly pleasures; Moksha, spiritual salvation and liberation. The bride leads the Pheras first, signifying her determination to stand first beside her husband in all happiness and sorrow. The priest blesses the couple on each turn praying for happiness, long life, good health and prosperity.

Saptha Pathi (Seven Steps and Vows)
The bride and groom take seven steps together, symbolising the beginning of their journey through life together. The seven steps reflect guiding principles of their married life.

First step: to keep a pure household; avoiding things injurious to our health.

Second step: to develop mental, physical, and spiritual powers.

Third step: to increase wealth by righteous means.

Fourth step: to acquire knowledge, happiness, and harmony by mutual love and trust.

Fifth step: for virtuous, intelligent, and courageous children.

Sixth step: for longevity.

Seventh step: to always remain true companions and life-long partners.

Sindhoor (Red Powder)
The Sindhoor ritual takes place where the groom applies a small dot of vermilion, a red powder, to the bride's forehead, welcoming her as his partner for life. This signifies the completion of the marriage.

Exchange of Rings
A circle, representing the sun, earth and universe, is a symbol of holiness, perfection and peace. The rings symbolise unity, in which the bride's and groom's lives are now joined in one unbroken circle. In whichever direction they go, they will always return to one another.

Aashirbaad (Blessings)
The priest blesses the newly wedded couple. Flower petals are then showered on the bridal couple by parents, family, friends and guests to express good wishes and blessings for the couple.

Martina and Craig | Canberra Wedding Photographer

I put so much thought into what I should write for each couple's post. I have seen my fair share of weddings but I find myself wrapped up in each couples day, still find myself smiling at small moments, get teary too often, get wound up in the chaos. I am so touched by people's speeches, by the love they share, by relationships and try to share a piece of that with you on the blog.
Today, I was moved by the incredible bond this beautiful family have. Martina and Craig are loved, so dearly, by so many people and to be surrounded by so many people who really care for you is just so special.
The beautiful children that grace Martina and Craig's home are some of the most divine little people I have met and it's a credit to them both and to the strength and love their families have.
What an honor it is to just be present on such an amazing day. I am forever grateful for the incredible job I have.

I cannot tell you how lucky I am to meet the people I do. I got to photograph this little guys Aunt and Uncle's wedding a few months ago. Horses are such a huge part of this beautiful family's life that we had to include them in both the wedding back in March and now with this perfect little man's first photographs.

I had the absolute privilege to be part of the most special birthday party I have been to in Canberra over the weekend. The beautiful, vibrant and bubbly Dot turned 90and her whole family were there to celebrate with her. Its a big thing these days to get an entire family together so we took the opportunity to update their family photos at the same time.

It was a fabulous day, every one had a blast and I am so honored to have been trusted to capture such a special time.

The Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPA's) | Batemans Bay Photography

Each year the AIPP runs an enormous event known within the industry as the APPA's.
Its the most prestigious photography competition in the country and this year it saw more than 3000 prints entered from photographers from across the country.
It's a chance for your work to be judged by the most amazing photographers, not just from Australia but from across the world. Its enormous and for the last four days has occupied thousands of photographers minds, all full of nerves and excitement. All hoping their prints will be successful in the judging and with any luck may even score them an award or two.

To say it's exhausting would be an understatement. Perhaps the feeling could be described as the most nerve-wracking, intense three days of any of the entrants lives could be close, although even that doesn't seem to cut it!

For months the preparation goes in, selecting the right images, editing them to perfection, printing them on the most delicious papers you could ever imagine, making sure you have done all those things perfectly, making sure of that again just in case, mounting them as if preserving the most precious piece of art in the world and finally packing them in one giant briefcase looking container and watching Australia Post take all your blood, sweat and tears into the distance. Hoping they will treat that black box like its their own baby, hoping they understand that that black case contains your heart and soul, destined to be hung on a wall, under two bright lights, sure to show even the slightest imperfection, for 5 people who you look up to and admire to judge. Argghh...just writing that makes my stomach turn all over again! Sound scary?
What about the fact that there is then a room full to the brim of other photographers watching them do that. Watching each judge rise from their seat to go in and look so closely at your image that even the smallest imperfection would be as obvious as a billboard on a highway? Yes, its hard. Its almost as hard as putting yourself up on that wall for all to judge. Its not just an image, its everything, your heart and your soul there for all to see.

Its huge and its something that takes every ounce of courage to go through with, even those who have done it before find it hard.

But, I did it. Why..I still have no idea, in fact, and I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking this but as soon as the competition begins I often have this sudden feeling of regret , I ask myself why oh why have I done this again, I am set for failure, is it too late to sift through thousands of the most amazing images you have ever seen to pull mine out and run?

But I didn't...I took a deep breath and sat and listened as the most talented photographers I know as they commented, judged and scored each print, I jumped for joy as my amazing friends scored awards for their work, I wandered the walls admiring the images. Some made me giggle, one even made my cry and it was then that I realised why we do this. It is the most inspiring and motivating event any photographer could attend. It reassures us why we do what we do, regardless of awards and accolades. We capture these memories that have the ability to move even a stranger walking by. That to me is incredibly reassuring and soul warming.

Anyway.... how did I go? I got two silver awards and something that gives me heart palpitations just thinking about it....A GOLD! An amazing, hard to achieve Gold ( I aint playing it down, I'm bloody proud! lol). I couldn't be more excited and to make it better two judges even scored it 98!
So thank you to the beautiful Poppa John for enabling me to catch that moment and then for allowing me to enter the print. It touches my heart every time I see it, I hope it does you as well.

Where is the value in hiring a photographer?

Have you ever asked yourself what the point of having professional photography is?
Have you seen a friend have photos taken, seen the glorious light in their daughters hair, creamy, rich tones, as if straight out of a magazine. You fall in love with their pictures and wish so dearly you could see your family framed so beautifully on your wall but when you make enquiries with photographers to have some for yourself you nearly fall off your chair when you see the price?

So where is the value in paying someone to take photos of your family? Sadly, if you pick the wrong photographer there may not be much. However choosing a professional who is trained and knows their craft well will prove to be an investment you will never regret.

Ok so how do you know if you are choosing the right photographer?
There are a few things you need to take into account. You need to do some research and make sure the person you chose will leave you with images that will last more than a lifetime and make you feel good that you made the right decision.

Photography is a talent and not something every one can do

I love the sound of someone singing to a guitar, that raw, pure sound just warms my soul. I am lucky enough to have a few friends who can pull out a guitar and just sing the most beautiful songs to the music as they play. They are amazing to watch and can make the most beautiful music even on the oldest, most ordinary of guitars.

That's because they are talented, they have an amazing ability that no matter how I try I will never have it. They hear the notes, can replicate the melodies and sounds in their heads. They play the music, the guitar is just their instrument and even if I went out and bought the most expensive guitar I could, I would never be able to play.
Its much like a photographer and their camera. The photographer sees the images and the camera allows them to record them.

So many times I have people say to me, 'wow, you must have a great camera, those photos are fantastic' 'what sort of camera should I buy to help me take photos like yours?' it sounds innocent enough but what if I said to my musician friends, what sort of guitar can I buy to play music like you? Imagine I asked Shakespeare what sort of pen could help me write such beautiful words? Doesn't work so well now does it?

I make pictures in my head well before I press the shutter on my camera. I see it, I frame it in my mind and replicate that picture through the view finder and capture it with my camera.

My point is that a great photographer is born, not made. Its a talent they have which they can then build on, not one that they decide to try. These days everyone is a 'photographer', the digital age has made it so simple to buy the best camera, take some photos and then progress into charging people money for it but there is far more to it than that and if you know what to look for, before long you can separate the talent from camera.

So here are some basic tips on what your photographer should know.

Can they see the light?

Without light there are no photographs, so to be able to see, understand and use light to create stunning images is a must. A good photographer knows how to use any sort of light to ensure your images are perfect in every way. This may be using light and shadows to frame the subject, to capture those amazing catchlights in children's eyes, catch single hairs dancing in golden sun rays. A good photographer can use the worst conditions to produce a masterpiece.

Its not all about the gear!

Just because they claim to have the top of the line equipment doesn't mean they can take a good photo. There is no limit to who can purchase an expensive camera, so that really makes no difference. For years I shot with a mid range camera, it wasn't top of the line, with the latest technology, it was standard, average and down right embarrassing but it made no difference to my final product because I was using it as a tool, it was nothing more than my instrument. I captured the light and saved it to a card, that's all it needed to do, I did the rest.

Here is a shot I took on my iPhone. The standard camera app that comes with the phone. Its not what I would call a perfect shot but its really not too bad. Because I know how to compose the shot, use the light properly and frame it, it produces an image that is quite usable.

Are they accredited?

Ooh that's a big one. There is one main body within Australia the AIPP which has two types of members, the first is an emerging member and the second is an accredited photographer.
To become an accredited photographer you must put forward a portfolio of images to be judged by a panel of highly skilled and knowledgeable photographers. Your work must be deemed as being of a professional standard before you are accepted as a member. You are then required to attend a number of workshops and seminars to ensure that your knowledge, skills and ability remain at an extremely high level. Looking for the AIPP logo ensures your photographer is backed by the industry and is producing work which passes their stringent judging and critique.

Editing and Printing

When I learnt photography I learned to shoot on film. It was a gamble, you had no idea if each shot would work until you had taken all 36 exposures, you would carefully pull the negatives and develop them, the excitement and anticipation building while you waited for those perfect little images to appear. Once you knew they had worked, that the exposures were all correct and you had captured your images well enough to print, you then entered a world of red lights, smells that still linger in my mind. You had to perfectly expose the light onto the paper to get the right tones, then bathe them in a concoction of chemicals to produce each and every print. It was an art. To produce a great image, you had to carry out each step with purpose and skill.
Fast forward to the digital age and there is a common misconception that suddenly that need to care for each image is long gone. That you press the shutter and the perfect image magically appears, ready to burn to a disk and take down to Harvey Norman to print. Sadly that's so very wrong.
While there is plenty of opportunity to do that (shoot and burn) a good photographer will still painstakingly put all that time and love into each of your images. Ensuring the tones, exposure, colours and sharpness are all perfect enough to create, not just a quick print but a work of art. A timeless piece of history, forever imprinted on the most delicious paper to ensure that in hundreds of years, your great, great, great grandchildren may sift through a box of photos to find that little piece of you, still perfectly written in a picture.

You can see the photo on the left is straight from my camera and the one on the right has had those final little touches added to really make it pop. Photoshop is about bringing out the best in a photo, not saving a badly exposed or composed image.

and here we have not only helped to make the image pop but have helped fix those little spots on parts of Nash's face. Not that he isn't the most perfect little guy already! But knowing how and when to make those little changes brings out the best in not only the image but in you and your family!

Are they an artist or a follower?

Its easy to see an image someone has taken and replicate it, sadly I have people copy my images a fair bit. But is it easy to have the vision yourself and carry it out, choosing the correct f-stop, exposure, shutter speed, ISO to produce an original work of art? There is more to taking a good photo than throwing a camera on one of its automatic modes and shooting away. There are so many factors that have to be perfect. Knowing all of those elements and how to bring them together with perfect composition and original framing is the skill. Sadly not every person calling themselves a photographer has that ability.

Do their pictures move you?

Yup, luck is with most people some of the time, any one could take a camera and if they take enough shots will pull some great shots. But do they move you? Are they consistent? Its your right to ask your photographer to have a look at a full gallery. Yep, all the shots they provided their last client. This will soon show you if they are knowledgeable enough to produce a full gallery of perfect shots. Each shot should be deliberate and have meaning, the colours and processing should be consistent and all the shots should be of equal quality. Some shots should move you. Make you laugh, make you cry. Warm your spirit. They should leave an impact on your soul, even if you don't know the subjects. Professional photographers should be producing images that are far beyond your wildest dreams, otherwise there is no point paying money for them. There should be a marked difference between their shots and those you could take yourself.

Lastly...cheaper is always cheaper.

There is a need in any industry to have a range of prices and quality. Its a healthy market to do so and gives everyone the opportunity to choose the level that is right for them. But like everything, just remember that you get what you pay for. The price will reflect quality so be sure when selecting a photographer you are aware that where there is a compromise on price, there will definitely be one on the quality of both the images you receive and the products you purchase.
We can't really compare MacDonalds to an expensive fine dining restaurant can we? Both give you food but one leaves you feeling a little sick and regretful, the other leaves you feeling warm and somewhat excited and wanting more. Cask wine and a fine French Champagne perhaps? Even Packet hair dye with a hairdresser. Its not just about the product sometimes but the entire experience.

Well, its been a while and I have to admit to falling way behind on my blogging. I have managed to show you all our amazing weddings but have let all my favorite 'little people' fall through without a look in!

So I will be catching up and showing you some of the most divine little faces and loads of laughs, starting with this little smiley pumpkin!
My goodness, I was in tears from laughing so much at this little guy. Mr N and his lovely family came out to my home town for their photos and what a wonderful afternoon we had. We laughed so, so much, played in the leaves, laughed some more and captured it all in these images.

Thank you Mr N for being the happiest little guy ever! It was so much fun and this little face just warms my heart!

Batemans Bay CoastKids Market | Batemans Bay Photographer

Phew, its been a crazy few weeks and considering I was meant to be on holidays thats even more crazy!
I have returned to the office and will be replying to emails and correspondance this week so thank you all for being so patient.

This also see's the launch of this year's Coastkids Magazine, sporting my image on the cover! Its a gorgeous shot of Ava and her mamma Toni that we took at Lilli Pilli in December!

Aren't they gorgeous? We are really excited to see it! Sadly I wont be able to go to the markets as I will be attending an enormous photographic trade show in Sydney where some of my images will be judged in Australia's most prestigious awards, the Canon APPA's. I'm proud to share that I am the only South Coast Photographer entering the competition!

Ash and Kyle | Batemans Bay Photographer

There are so many beautiful places on the coast and this little spot was no exception! With Kangaroo's that sit under the tree's basking in the amazing warm sunlight, it's no wonder Ash said this was one of her favorite places.

We met this afternoon in honour of Ash and Kyle's 5 year anniversary and what a fantastic way to mark the occasion it was. I had heard a rumour that Kyle was a bit of a joker and I was well prepared for it, but he was very well behaved (aside from one little incident we wont mention) and we managed to get some beautiful shots of both of them and well hullo, are they not the most beautiful couple ever?

Tammy and Michael | Huskisson Wedding Photographer

I have to say, I was a little worried when I read the weather report for Saturday. There was an ocean wind warning and a 4 meter swell and given Michael and Tammy planned to jump aboard a boat and sail away from their ceremony into the sunset, it could have been a bit dicey.

Somehow though, everything was on their side and it could not have been more perfect, it was a stunning Jervis Bay day for a wedding. The sun was shining, the crystal clear waters were calm and the angry sea they predicted vanished into the afternoon.

The day was perfect, the boat was amazing and I think it's fair to say Tammy, Michael and their fantastic bridal party had a blast.

Fi + James' Merimbula Wedding

Fi and James came together to not only renew their vowes but to celebrate Fi's 30th birthday! What an amazing day to share with them!

Fi put so much into the day, she even made each guest (including me!!) beautiful beaded foot jewelery to wear on the beach. They shared their ceremony with their beautiful three girls, James giving Fi a gorgeous ring with five stones to represent each of them. It was just so special!

Sometimes you just feel like you know people when really, you have never met them before. I felt that way about Grant and Jenna.

I have been chatting with Jenna about her plans for a long time now, so it was really lovely to finally meet them. It was more lovely when I really felt like I knew them, perhaps its because they are so genuine, friendly, loving and truly beautiful people, both inside and out and perhaps that's owed to the fact that both their families share those same qualities.

I was moved by the friendships and love their families shared and the way in which they all opened their hearts and shared endless amounts of love and laughter.

We were so blessed on Saturday, it had rained all night on Friday...and when I say rain, I mean absolute torrential downpours from dusk to dawn!
But as Grant stepped outside in his clean white suit and Jenna zipped up her crisp new dress, the clouds dispersed and the rain stopped. Just like that, it stopped until later that night, leaving them with a perfect day to share their love for each other.
Surrounded by their guests, all of whom were dressed in white, Jenna and Grant were married in a beautiful ceremony by the river.

Grant and Jenna, thank you. Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us. I haven't ever laughed as much as I did at your reception. Thank you!

Joni + Mark's Narooma Wedding

Joni and Mark planned the most delightful outdoor wedding and no amount of rain was going to change that. You see this was a special day to be shared by only their closest family members including Mark's parents who were visiting Australia from England.
I'm guessing mother nature was trying her best to make Mark's parents feel at home as the day was one that could be compared to a fine English one.

Joni wasn't going to let a bit of rain dampen her spirits so we made the most of it and hit the beach for some photos.

Remember Renee, Richard and their hilarious little son Darcy? I was lucky enough to meet them when we shot their sweetheart session a few months back. We clicked straight away and of course I was instantly taken with Mr D.

I have been looking forward to this wedding for a long time, I knew Darcy would be playing a very important role in the day and knew that with him involved, it would be full of laughs. It was more than full of laughs, it was a beautiful day, filled with so much love, lots of sunshine and more laughs than I could ever have hoped for.

Oh yes, that's their cake! Basketball has played a huge role in both Renee and Richard's lives and is the reason they met so its only fitting it was included in the day!

Now, if you know me you will know that I am addicted to M&M's, you will also know that I adore seeing the various ways in which people use my images. Nicky and Tom's story is a bit like one straight out of a romance story. Cute city girl meets handsome, polo x playing, country boy, its love at first sight and they live happily ever after.
I heard this story a few times throughout Nicky and Tom's wedding day and will admit I got swept away in true hopeless romantic style!

Tom and Nicky chose the most beautiful place for their special day, a place that lives in both their hearts and while it was perhaps a little chilly, it was beautiful none the less. Horses are also huge part of Tom's family and I hear that Tom and his three brothers are amazing horsemen, so it was only fitting that they played a role in their day.

Nicky and Tom, thank you for sharing your amazing day with us, you have the most amazing, loving families and it was such a joy to be surrounded by them.

To sum up this wedding in just a few images was close to impossible. I could very well have posted everything we took on the day and even considered posting a slideshow. I have somehow managed to narrow it down, although its one epic post!

I wanted to show you all how amazing the atmosphere was, the love and togetherness that Nick and Carolyn's families shared, the laughter, the music.... ok so its a bit hard to show you the music but hopefully I have captured the energy and fun that the music created.

Nick and Carolyn are the most beautiful couple, they share the most amazing families and friends. I was really moved by their day and looking through the images of them sharing so many incredible moments makes my heart sing with happiness.

I have been waiting so long for today! I first spoke to Adam and Nicole over a year ago about their wedding and we have been chatting ever since.
Its often like Christmas the night before a wedding, there is so much anticipation for everyone involved...me included!

Friday finally rolled around I have to admit to feeling a little bit worried about the weather as it rained all day but by mid morning today, the clouds had parted and the rain stopped. It was perfect in every way and surrounded by a gorgeous group of family friends, Nicole and Adam had one perfect wedding day!

I love Narooma, it is the most gorgeous little beach town, so when we organised Carly and Ben's session and they mentioned they would be in Narooma, I was super excited! Although I didn't factor in 36+ degrees and humidity that gave the tropics a run for its money!

I have been chatting with Carly about their April wedding for a long time, so to finally meet these guys was fantastic. They are as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside and I honestly cannot wait to be able to share in their special day.

Carolyn + Nick | Sweetheart Session

I met with Carolyn and Nick a few months ago to chat about their wedding, which then was months away. Well time flies and the wedding is now just 5 short weeks down the track. I met them again on Saturday for their sweetheart sweetheart session, they had forecast some rain but it turned out to be one of the most gloriously warm and sunny day. It was the perfect day for photos.

I cannot wait to capture Carolyn and Nick's wedding in just 5 weeks. Its set to be a wonderful celebration of love and family. Hopefully we get as fabulous weather in February for their big day.

a beautiful family

I have been so lucky to have spent time with some of the most beautiful families lately.
Danielle organised this session for her gorgeous family because it was the first time in a long time that they were all together. A few of them live in Melbourne, some in Canberra and three of them even came all the way from Canada! So to spend some time together over the Christmas break was truly special for all of them.

These guys had the most fabulous energy, they laughed and joked and had so much fun together. It was an absolute joy to spend the afternoon with them and an honor to have the chance to capture some beautiful moments for them to cherish for ever.

Now I made a promise to Nick and I never break a promise...so Nick... you are in 118 photos!

Rewind a little...

back to the 23rd of December...

I met Toni, Murray and thair gorgeous family on my favorite beach, late in the afternoon when the light is fabulous and the waves just roll on in. The reflections at this time are just fabulous. They had travelled all the way from Queensland to see their family for Christmas and while they were all together, what better opportunity to capture some beautiful images.

We had a great time, stocked with champagne and nibbles, it was a fabulously fun session. Miss C and Miss A had a wonderufl time running around on the sand.

It was such a pleasure to meet these guys and a wonderful last session for 2010.

The Creative Asia Awards

Just a quick post before the grand finale post of 2010!

To say its been a busy few weeks would be an understatement. We covered out last wedding for the year on Sunday and still have one fabulous family portrait session left to go but in amongst all that business I popped a few of your images in the Creative Asia Awards to see how they weould go.

Well, I'm excited to tell you that the images scored really well and I walked away with one silver and seven bronze awards! Yippeee... what a way to end 2010 and make us proud of all the hard work we have put in.

Jo and Dan's Narooma Wedding

You might soon guess where Dan is from once you look at these images. In fact, both Jo and Dan travelled all the way from Canada this week to get married in front of Jo's Australian friends and family and a beautiful few of Dan's fellow Canadians, who made the trip for the first time ever!

We didn't really put on the nicest Aussie welcome when it came to the weather, yesterday. To say it rained would be an understatement, torrential downpour would be closer...but even that isn't quite what it was.
So with a quick change of ceremony venue, the day went without a hitch, the rain cleared for our photo shoot and then the sky turned on the most amazing cloud show as the night went on.

I honestly love watching couples on their wedding day, I'm a total romantic so can get swept away in the emotion but Jo and Dan's love for each other is just so easy to see. Dan just looks at Jo with such admiration and love, it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

To Dan and Jo, thank you for showing me pure, honest emotion yesterday, it was just so special to be able to capture your stunning day. I hope you will be able to share this little sneak peek of your day to those friends who couldn't make the journey over.

Miss M's little sister!

I am so grateful to be able to meet so many new little people in their first few weeks of life. It is such a joy to be around families at such an exciting time.

Its even more special when its a family you know! I got to watch the count down to Miss G's arrival, so was super excited when I heard the news she had arrived, as was her big sister!

To capture Tina and Colin's family as it has grown from their first pregnancy, through to this moment is so special. It has been a pleasure to capture so many special moments.

Fiona & Timothy's Batemans Bay Wedding

Fiona and I had a conversation last week about what we would do if it rained on Saturday. It had rained for around three weeks and with half the state in flood, things were not looking good.

As it turned out, there was absolutely no need to worry, the Bay dished out the most spectacular, bright, sun filled day with not a single cloud in sight, which is just as well when you have a gorgeous garden reception planned, full of sunny daisies. It was with a backdrop filled with a sea of flowers and lush green grass, the day went along perfectly.

Jem & Matt's Kangaroo Valley Wedding

I happen to think I have a pretty awesome job... but I do have to say that Jem and Matt have THE coolest job ever! Its so cool that its beyond a job, it's their life and its clearly a passion.

When I first met Matt and Jem we spoke about their jobs more than we did about the wedding so I was so excited to see if elements of that would be included in any of the details on the day...and they certainly were!

You see both Matt and Jem study, hunt, catch, care for, and just live Crocodiles! How awesome is that? Im talking fair dinkum, roll in the mud, jump on them type work!

Now, I know there are no Crocodiles down this way, Jem and Matt travelled all the way from Darwin to hold their wedding in Kangaroo Valley, no doubt one of the most beautiful areas in NSW.

With a backdrop like no other and guests from all over the globe they shared in the most beautiful day, filled with love and the ring of cicada's, the Valley turned on the heat and humidity in true Darwin style.

It was a lovely day and an honour to be a part of it.

I first met Michelle and Brad over a coffee where we talked all things weddings for longer than we had planned...it was then that I knew, not only were we going to get along beautifully but that this wedding would have that little something extra.

Michelle had big plans and some of the most gorgeous ideas I had heard...so it was easy to say I was a tad excited when their day finally rolled around.

They are as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside, they are the most wonderful parents I have ever seen, to the two most adorable little girls and are loving and sweet and fabulous all round so it was such a joy to be able to share in their amazing wedding day.

I happen to know that a few people are waiting very patiently for this post and we all know a picture speaks a thousand words, so rather than tell you about just how much work, love and attention to detail went into their day, I will show you.

There is something about a newborn baby that just melts the hearts of most people.
To get to spend so much time with so many perfect little people is something I will always be grateful for... is there any better job in the world?

On Sunday I finally got to meet this divine little Man, he was such an angel. He stayed happily awake for the whole session, content to just be with his gorgeous mum and dad, he didn't make a sound, not a cry, not a whimper..nothing. He was just perfect in every sense.

Ash & Cheri | Bungendore NSW

I am honestly so blessed to have made some amazing friends through photography. In fact most of my closest friends are photographers.

Ash and Cheri from Cherish Photographics are no exception. In fact they are the most beautiful pair of photographers you could ever meet. They have been a huge inspiration for me and I think they are fab, so when Ash asked me about doing a session for him and Cheri to celebrate their wedding anniversary I could not have been more honoured!

Now I get nervous before most shoots...why? Someone once told me its because I care, which obviously is a good thing, but the nerves I felt before this session were about 20 times that. Yes, because I cared but also because I was about to shoot two people who I look up to, who's work inspires me and drives me to push myself.

I had a graet time, wandering their gorgeous little town and then we even got to chat all things photos and christmas and houses while eating the most delicious breakfast ever! Thank you!

So here they are....and to Ash and Cheri, thank you for being amazing, for inspiring me even at our session. I hope you love them

The gorgeous Mr H | Batemans Bay Newborn Photography

Meet the adorable Mr H. I absolutely adore these top few images, usually newborn photos are sleepy and snuggled but this little man did not miss a trick and was clearly interested in what I was up to! He watched everything I did and I love that he is looking straight at the camera.
Dad worked his magic in the end and H drifted off to sleep.

Mel and Ryan

Its been almost two years since I have seen Mel & Ryan.
I met Mel when while working with her in my pre-photographer life, where she one day walked in to announce she wanted to go to England, a couple of days later the tickets were bought and it was final!
Fast forward two years and what seemed like forever and after them finding a whole new life over there, jet setting all over Europe, they finally landed back in Australia just three weeks ago and came straight down to visit me!

Anyway, we had a great weekend in the sun and what better way to celebrate being back in Australia than with a cute photo session?

I adore these and hope you two do as well.

Two and a half years on.....

I got to photograph Tina's beautiful belly again! You see I got to photogaph Tina's belly when Miss M was in there, now two and a half years later, they are expecting another bundle of joy and Miss M is here to share in the joy and excitement!

It was so good to chat and catch up with them all and to top it off, Tina makes the most delicious coffee and is a wiz in the kitchen so her muffins are always a treat!
Thank you for a lovely way to spend my Sunday! I cannot wait to meet the new addition to the family!
